Parent Coordination
Parent Coordination is a process in which a professional is appointed by the court to assist parents in high conflict to implement a parenting plan that reflects the existing custody/visitation court order. While plans vary from one family to the next, some basic components usually include the following:
- educating the parents about childrens’ needs and the impact of divorce.
- reducing childrens’ stress and symptoms post-separation/divorce.
- highlighting the importance of putting the childrens’ needs first.
- assisting in childrens’ adjustments to the transitions from one parents’ home to the other.
- coaching parents on how to resolve differences and disagreements about their children.
- assisting with decisions about transportation, exchanging children, and managing holiday and vacation schedules.
- making decisions on issues outlined in the court order when parents find themselves unable to reach a compromise.
