Kindergarten Readiness Testing
A child who has reached his/her 4th birthday by April 16th may enter kindergarten in the fall in North Carolina, if he or she demonstrates an extraordinary level of academic ability and maturity and meets all the required state criteria. The child must score at the 98th percentile and above on an individual intellectual test and standardized achievement testing. Also, the child must be observed to be socially advanced and motivated for learning.
If you believe your child is ready for kindergarten and is likely to be advanced intellectually, academically, and socially, then you may want to consider kindergarten readiness testing. We usually allow a two hour block of time to assess your child, although some may need to return for an additional hour of testing depending upon his or her attention span. We provide a written report for you and you may also request a separate interpretive session.
